Here is how to choose a wedding photographer: Irish edition!

Forget about Location

Wedding photographers in Ireland that work all over the island. While some may charge a fee for travel, it will rarely make a big difference in your total budget. So, when you are looking for an Irish wedding photographer, forget about geography and look all over the island.

Popularity Isn’t Everything

Finding a well-reviewed photographer is essential, and you will definitely want to see testimonies from previous clients. That said, it is not a popularity contest! In fact, if your photographer is advertising the fact that he or she has done countless wedding, it could be a sign of being spread too thin or working in large teams.

Nobody is shooting 200 weddings per year in Ireland! If a wedding photographer website has an endless portfolio, it is probably part of an agency. This is not automatically a bad thing, but it is essential to make sure that you know who will be shooting your wedding on the big day.

Sales Are Overrated

Whether we are talking about wedding photographers or shoes, you get what you pay for! Photography is so significant, and if you want to have an expansive wedding album, you should be prepared to pay for it. Remember, after everything, it is not a bargain if you don’t like your photos. Want to save money? Read these smart tips on how to save cash on your big day.

I would highly encourage you to compare prices and ask detailed questions to see who is the best choice for you but don’t make that the bottom line. The most important thing is to find a photographer who you connect with and like. Look through wedding photographers’ portfolios to get a clear idea of his or her style then meet in person to ensure that you connect with each other.

You Don’t Have to Follow Recommendations

Many wedding venues have a list of preferred vendors. Sometimes these options are prime picks, other times they are not. In fact, it is a dirty little wedding industry secret that some vendors actually pay for a spot of that preferred vendor list. Unfortunately, there is no real way to know who bought their way in and who earned it. That is why it is so important to research your wedding photographer more rather than just going on recommendations alone.

This is doubly true if your recommendation is coming from your family and friends! While it is great to support your friends and family in whatever they want to do, it is not your responsibility to simply hire anyone you know with a camera. Even if you have a cousin or a college friend who is an amateur photographer, you don’t choose this person. In fact, it is generally not a very good idea. Hire a professional if you want professional results. That said, it can still be great to have a backup photographer on your guest list who can snap candid shots while still celebrating your big day with you.
